Relationship and Sexuality Education (RSE)

The curriculum in Wales has changed significantly with the recent introduction of the Curriculum for Wales 2022.  As part of these changes, the way in which RSE is delivered has changed for all settings.  As stated in the Welsh Government's 'Relationships and Sexuality Education (RSE): Information for Schools, Settings, Parents and Carers' publication, the focus is on ensuring that pupils "respect themselves and others...value diversity, and...build healthy, respectful relationships."  Teaching and learning within RSE plays a crucial role in ensuring that all pupils can "access information that keeps them safe from harm. This includes learning about healthy relationships, keeping safe, online and offline, and being confident to raise issues with responsible adults."

The following videos should help to provide context and rationale for changes to RSE under the Curriculum for Wales and provide further detail about what will be taught in RSE sessions within primary school settings.

As a school, we have worked closely with our colleagues throughout the Tenby/Greenhill cluster of schools to ensure that we are providing a consistent approach to RSE curriculum.  This includes the creation of cluster-wide overview for RSE, showing which areas will be addressed in each year group.  This document is available below for all parents/carers to download.

Should you have any questions about how RSE is taught at Sageston CP School, please feel free to contact us to discuss them further.
